How to choose a credentialing company

Credentialing companies get your providers enrolled with Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payers, keep CAQH profiles current and handle re-credentialing before deadlines pass. Delays here mean a provider who sees patients but cannot bill for them.

What it usually costs

Pricing is usually per provider, per payer application, or a monthly fee per provider for ongoing maintenance. Ask whether the price covers follow-up calls to payers, CAQH upkeep and re-credentialing, or only the first application.

How long it takes

Payer enrollment often takes 60 to 120 days, and some commercial payers take longer. No company can make a payer move faster than its own process, so be wary of guaranteed timelines. A good partner starts early, tracks every application and tells you where each one stands.

Questions to ask

Before you choose a partner

What should a private practice compare?

Ask about specialty-specific workflows, staffing, system access, reporting, transition plans, fees and termination terms. Request references relevant to your practice size.

Does verified mean HIPAA certified?

No. A verified listing means the directory reviewed business identity and profile evidence. Assess safeguards, contracts and BAA terms directly.
